 THE BACK DROP

Established in 1987 as State Institute of Forestry Training (SIFT) and renamed as AP Forest Academy from January 2001.

Catered to the training needs of Social Forestry from 1987 to 1993.

Conducted training programmes on JFM from 1993 to September 2000 (under World Bank aided AP Forest Project).
Conducted training programmes from October 2000 to March 2002 (NABARD assistance)

Conducting trainings to communities, staff, NGOs, other departmental staff and officers from other states & countries from 2002 till date.

Conducting 4 months Certificate course on Natural Resources Management for Sustainable Development.

THE VISION

To Develop A.P. Forest Academy into a premier institute not only in Andhra Pradesh but also in the country with modern technologies and expertise for impacting effective training in participatory Forestry and Natural Resource Management.

DIVERSE ACTIVITIES

Job Course Trainings, Refresher Trainings, Workshops/Seminars, Study Tours, Information Dissemination, Extension, Children and Forest Education (CAFÉ), Action Research etc.

Monthly News Letter (Vanasamrakshini) APFA News Letter (Quarterly), Vana Gnapika (souvenir of FSO Training), Posters (4) Documentary Films (6) Training Manuals/Books (8), Children And Forest Education (CAFÉ), Vana Chaitanyam (Kalajathas) in 3 Divisions (40 Villages).

CHILDREN AND FOREST EDUCATION (CAFÉ)

In order to enable the future citizens of the state and to gain first hand knowledge about the importance of forests and environment, this programme was initiated by A.P. Forest Academy, Dulapally with the following components.

Eco- sensitization meets in schools
Nature study camps in Academy
Road shows (Back to nature)

OUR STRENGTHS:

Effective utilization of resources, Maximum Trainees satisfaction, Motivated Faculty and Team Work, Networking and collaboration with National and State institutes, Platform for consultations with stakeholders.

APFA received ICFRE award for outstanding performance in the field of Forestry Extension for the year 2001-01.

ACTION RESEARCH:

1. Effectiveness of trainings. 2. Participatory Monitoring of CFM. 3. Change Management (CFM). 4. Gender issues.

OUR EXPERIENCES:  

So far (upto November, 2007) 8565 participants were trained.

IFS officers from different states were trained (2007) on Livelihood development strategies in Forest Fringes villages.

Officers from Maldives were trained (2007) on Fundamentals in Forest management.

Officers from A.P. Police department and HUDA and Agriculture department were trained on GIS and GPS applications.

TRAININGS, WORK SHOPS/SEMINARS
 
State and National level Trainings, Workshop/Seminars are being conducted regularly.

THEMES: Livelihood Planning, Bamboo for Livelihood promotion, Forest based crafts development, clean development mechanism, NTFP for sustainable livelihoods, participatory Bio-diversity conservation, community silviculture, Medicinal Plants cultivation, development & marketing etc.,

 

STUDY TOURS:  

Study tours to other states for officers, study tours to other states for communities, Study tours within the state for communities are being conducted.

Out Comes: Exposure to the best practices and innovative methods

JOB COURSE TRAININGS: Regular classes, Interaction with experts, Field work, Field Visits, Exposure and Study Tours.

 

ROPING IN THE BEST:

Academy does not believe working in isolation. APFA has liaison and coordination with reputed institutions like Dr. MCR. HRD, NIRD, ASCI, NRSA, EPTRI, CIMAP, KFRI, IFM and NGOs like IBRAD, CPF, Chiranjeevi Eco-friends society etc. APFA has international collaboration with FAO and West Virginia University.

THE FACILITIES:

TRAINING HALLS: Conference Hall (AC)-1, Hi-Tech class rooms (AC)-2. Computer lab (AC)-1, Ordinary class room-1, Hall for FSOs training-1, Hall for FBOs training-1.

LIBRARY FACILITIES: Books on Forestry & Environment related subjects, Journals/Magazines.

HOSTEL FACILITIES:

39 rooms (Executive Hostel, New Hostel) & 25 rooms (Old Hostel), one dormitory, 4 dining halls, recreation facilities. All with twin bed facility.

TRANSPORT FACILITIES:

Two Swaraj mazda vans, 27 seater (1) & 15 seater (1), Two Mahindra vans.

RECREATION FACILITES:
 
Outdoor Stadium, Indoor Stadium, Gym room & Musical instruments are available.

Geomatics centre is equipped with latest cartographic, image processing, GIS and GPS facilities and Latest Audio- visual display systems.

GIS wing is under the control of Additional Principle Chief Conservator of Forests (IT) and consists of Conservators of Forests, Asst. Conservator of forests, Forest Range Officers and Project scientists.

A.P. Forest department received awards in the year 2004 (Silver Icon) and in the year 2005 (Gold Icon) from Govt of India for e-governance initiatives.
